At first I was hesitant towards the Management Development Programme, not knowing what to expect and what it would deliver, thinking would it be just another course, however I couldnt of been further from the truth.
I was new to management and was hoping to learn new things, new ways of managing, leading, coaching and more and this is exactly what was offered. Every module had something different about my daily activity, providing real life examples and outcomes, offering ways of over achieving and maintaining a healthy, pro-active team. It provides support when dealing with difficult situations, guides you step by step through disciplinary and grievances procedures, something you dont deal with on a daily basis. Each module it facilitated by a General Manager who can talk through real scenarios and answer any questions you may have. This is a great way of meeting other colleagues within the Group, I made contacts who I now speak to regularly. I would strongly recommend anyone interested in this course to apply, I have learnt lots of new skills in all different management areas that I put in practice every day and now feel more confident about being a Sales Manager.

The 2010 GMDP has been the most enlightening and insightful development experience of my career.
At the out set I felt I had a good idea of what to expect having experienced similar development programmes earlier in my career with BMW, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. This is a world away from the stereotypical mass market PDP hosted by high end manufactures hoping to develop “starts for the future”! This programme is unique and has been designed to stretch, challenge, confront and on occasions completely de-construct our preconceptions about ourselves and the industry that we operate in. Frankly there were times when my head was spinning with the frequency of the “light bulb” moments. We have worked with Personal coaches, psychologists, actors and other associated industry professionals. We have benefited from sharing best practice, exposure to other industries and detailed analysis of our own businesses. We have spent quality time with each member of the board of directors and have had the opportunity to shadow one of them in their daily duties at head office and in the field. Most poignantly I have developed deep and lasting relationships with my fellow course members and the staff and trainers involved in the programme. The work has been challenging and some of the feedback has been brutal but I am certain that I have grown immeasurably as a manager as a result! Many thanks Tracey, Gill and John.

For me the MDP has been a major factor in the confidence and knowledge i have gained starting out my role as Parts Manager and a great start to my future.
I have been with the company for 9 years now and when the opportunity arose of becoming manager of our department i put myself forward without having any experience of management. If im honest at first things were very daunting and i was unsure which avenues to take but MDP has most definitely steered me in the right direction, giving you actual situations you may come across in management and how to deal with them when they do arrive. In the past training courses have never really appealed to me but i can honestly say i enjoyed all 10 modules for their content and for meeting up with different line managers or even those not yet at management level training for their future. I would highly recommend MDP for new managers like me but also for experienced management as the tools/ confidence and direction it gives i believe is beneficial to all.

As of April 2009 I will have worked for Jardine Motors 25 years. I feel it’s fair to say in those 25 years things have changed so much and the challenges have got tougher along the way, who would have thought when jokingly someone said 13 years ago, I am going to surf the internet there would be a massive explosion of people using computers and the internet?
6 years ago I was involved with a massive redevelopment here at Scotthall Leeds where we moved into temporary premises for 12 months whilst they demolished and built a brand new state of the art BMW/MINI dealership, the plan was when we moved back in, service would make 1 million pounds direct profit in the 1st year: Wow what a challenge. Fortunately for me whilst all this was going on the MDP (Management development program) was launched and the group of Managers I was with were the 1st to attend. At first I thought, I could do without this, well it was a blessing in disguise, each month for the next 12 months we all got together on the MDP and developed our skills in all areas of the business, it was also great because you met and shared ideas from other franchised managers and to this day we still keep in touch. Result Since moving back into our new business 5 years ago, we have achieved a direct profit of over 1 million pounds every year in service, trained many other members of staff on the MDP resulting in them becoming Managers in their own right or taking on more responsibility along with having 100% staff retention, a very happy workforce. I would strongly recommend MDP to any one with the desire to climb that ladder.

The suite of JMG personal and management development are truly world class courses, designed to flex to the specific needs of individual candidates.

GMDP created a fantastic forum for me to experience and actively participate in a multitude of business, commercial, and emotional scenarios, each of which I was likely to be encounter as a GM.
The fundamental difference however, was being able to play out these scenarios in a controlled environment with immediate and constructive feedback. Although this feedback wasn't always comfortable it was invariably useful.
The course structure, content and pace were well consider, stretching and very relevant. As a result I have taken many positives away from GMDP, from meeting the directors for an open and revealing Q&A session, staying at the Mandarin Oriental for cross over exposure, and role playing difficult personnel issues with professional actors. However, I believe I learnt most from my fellow delegates who were all worthy participates and made the entire experience enjoyable, fun and a true education. I can confidently say that as a direct result of my participation in GMDP I am a better, more rounded and skillful manager. Thank you
